Azfar Rehman pulls out of awards show due to flood crisis

Azfar Rehman, an actor, chose not to participate in the 2022 awards in Canada to show his solidarity with the flood victims in Pakistan. On Friday, actress Aatish announced the news on Instagram.

He said he pulled out “by choice out of respect for the coveted event”.

“Sorry to disappoint my fans in Toronto Canada, I will not be attending the HUM Awards this year even though I am nominated for Best Actor in a Negative Role category. I stand in solidarity with my siblings who are drowning in floods. I request the authority during the award ceremony to please donate my ticket and remain money for flood relief,” he wrote, adding the hashtag Pakistan Zindabad.

Ayesha Omar, Mehwish Hayat, Nadia Afgan, Ali Kazmi, Sadaf Kanwal and Shagufta Ejaz were among the celebrities who praised Rehman for his stance.

Sharmila Faruqi, a high-ranking politician, recently berated local celebrities (with the notable exception of Hadiqa Kiani) for not doing enough to help relieve the floods. She shared photos of several Canadian celebrities in an Instagram post.
