Garth explained how many countries supported the exclusion of the Russian Luge Federation from the FIL

Sixteen national federations have voted to exclude the Russian Luge Federation (FSSR) from membership in the International Luge Federation (FIL), FSSR chief says on Match TV Natalia Garth.

In March, the FIL Executive Committee temporarily suspended Russian athletes from participating in international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. The arbitral tribunal canceled these measures for legal reasons. At the congress of the FIL, the question of the expulsion of the FSSR from the international organization was discussed, but the Russian Federation retained its membership in the FIL.

– The FIL made a decision on April 7, on the 8th there was a meeting of the FIL Congress, where they tried to expel us from the membership. 2/3 of the votes were not collected, we stayed. This example shows that not all national federations want to exclude us. It’s not that easy to do. To really expel us because we are Russian, we must change the charter and say that sport is politics. Until this is done, until sport exists in accordance with the principles of Olympism, it is very difficult to exclude us by legal means.

The vote was secret, but I pretty much understand the alignment of forces. The Extraordinary Congress was convened after six national federations, representing 10% of the total membership, filed petitions asking for our expulsion. These are the federations of the United States, Canada, Australia, Great Britain, Ireland and New Zealand. All declarations were made in carbon copy, only on different forms. 16 voted for the exclusion, 13 voted against, four abstained, Garth declared on the antenna of the emission “There is a subject!” on MatchTV.
