Canada joins the efforts of the Rencontre government’s 9/100 vaccination plan to fight COVID-19, with the donation of 394,950,000 doses of AstraZeneca, which arrived this Friday, August 27 at the airport Mariscal Sucre of Quito.
The batch of vaccines was received by the Deputy Minister of Governance and Health Surveillance, José Ruales, along with the Canadian Ambassador to Ecuador, Sylvie Bédard. In addition, the Secretary General of the Vice-Presidency, Martín Cabezas, and the Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Diego Morejón.
With the arrival of biological, to date, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), adds about 2.7 million doses of AstraZeneca received.
Ruales thanked the ambassador of the sister country and stressed that the donation was relevant when the country is in the final phase of the vaccination process and that he assured that it will allow to extend the coverage beyond 9 million. of people. “There are plans to use these resources to complete immunization in border areas, both Ecuador-Peru and Ecuador-Colombia. This will allow us to open the borders in the near future. We will use them to achieve maximum population coverage, ”he announced.
In the south of the country, it includes the provinces of Zamora Chinchipe, Loja and El Oro and in the north, Sucumbíos, Carchi and Esmeraldas.
The doses will also be intended to serve the population in a situation of mobility between the two borders. “We must also guarantee their health and protect the population in transit transits,” added the Deputy Minister.
According to Ruales, the goal in these provinces will always be to reach 100%, which is currently between 72% and 90%, for which constant home monitoring is carried out. “It is possible that there are flows of people from the neighboring country who have been vaccinated. We are also coordinating to conduct joint conferences with neighboring countries, ”he stressed.
