The 2024 RBC Canadian Open looks a little different this year as the tournament returns to Hamilton Golf & Country Club for the first time since 2019 and the seventh time in the event’s history. Five years ago, it was Rory McIlroy who topped the field by seven points to secure the first of his two Canadian Open titles, but last year it was Nick Taylor who became a local hero.
Taylor beat Tommy Fleetwood with a 72-foot eagle putt on the third playoff hole to become the first Canadian to win his home country’s Open in 69 years. Taylor’s victory and the celebrations that followed instantly made him a legend – so much so that his silhouette is now part of the tournament logo.
The Canadians will be hoping to end another dry spell this week, as their countrymen have not won the Canadian Open in two consecutive years since 1913-14. The field is full of Maple Leaf representatives, with Mackenzie Hughes the most likely to achieve the feat. He must catch 54-hole leader Robert MacIntyre, while Fleetwood is among his closest rivals.
