VANCOUVER, BC – Let’s bring the magic of the Cup back to BC!
Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Monday that one dollar from every ticket to the Canadian Championship Finals will go toward hosting the next domestic tournament for League1 BC men’s and women’s teams. Funds will be split equally between the next men’s team to host the Canadian Championship and the League1 Canada Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship to be played in British Columbia in 2024.
“The magic of cup competitions is a big part of what makes our sport so special,” said Axel Schuster, CEO of Whitecaps FC. “We take a huge responsibility for the growth of the game in our community and know that hosting these big cup games can be a financial drain for League1 BC clubs. We have all seen the incredible experience TSS Rovers have had as hosts at Swangard Stadium this year. We want to see more of those moments in our province and couldn’t be prouder to offer this support to help make this a reality.”
Last year, 24,307 fans packed BC Place to see the Caps win the Voyageurs Cup against Toronto FC. This year, the Caps host Montreal CF in the Canadian Championship finals on Wednesday, June 7 at BC Place.
“The Canadian Championships and Inter-Provincial Championships provide a unique opportunity for BC talent to perform at the national level,” said Gabriel Assis, League1 BC Steering Committee Chair and head of football operations at BC Soccer. “We invite all fans to support the Vancouver Whitecaps in keeping the Voyageurs Cup in BC! This contribution will provide significant support to League1 BC as we continue to elevate and develop the level of play in our province.”
League1 BC teams also have the opportunity to earn $5 per ticket for their clubs through their own unique group links.
